Syracuse Orange vs Pittsburgh Panthers preview
The Orange have not won in Pittsburgh since 2001. How do they break a 25 year drought on Thursday night?
I'm not much into bumming people out before they get to the meat and potatoes of a piece, but I need to share with you all the Syracuse-Pitt rivalry page on Wikipedia. It is truly depressing as an Orange fan to look at the season by season results, and somehow, the color coding makes it worse.
There are so many funny/college football specific things to see in this graphic. For example, one of Syracuse's five wins in the last 25 years was vacated, and that win was one of Greg Robinson's five vacated wins that were a result of infractions mostly involving the basketball team. Robinson had ten total wins before the vacations.
You'll also notice the Orange have only beaten Pittsburgh in the State of New York since 2001, with their wins coming at the Carrier Dome (not yet JMA Dome) and Yankee Stadium. Syracuse's last win in Pittsburgh game when Pitt/Steelers were celebrating the opening of Heinz (now Acrisure) Field and some dude named Troy Nunes quarterbacked an Orange team who leaned on James Mungro's 100+ yards in a 42-10 victory.
